Here are some points of progress and pride during the first week of the “First FOLIO at MSU” Project: On Tuesday a press release about this major project was distributed. Responses to preliminary planning surveys from both EBSCO and OpenAthens are being completed and returned. Our responses will help these partners to prepare to implement their systems at MSU. Gifts to the MSU Libraries Increase in FY19

From FY18 to FY19 the dollar value of gifts to the MSU Libraries increased 190% to a total of over $1.7 million.  The number of gifts also increased 14% to over 900 generous gifts.  These annual figures from the MSU Foundation do not include gifts for capital improvements.  Everyone at the MSU Libraries is very grateful to all the generous sources of funds and in-kind gifts. Over 60 people attended the grand opening on September 24, 2019 of the new Innovation Lab at the MSU Libraries. Dr. Frank Einhellig, Provost at MSU, provided some brief remarks. Outdoor Seating Added

In September some outdoor seating was added near the main entrance to Duane G. Meyer Library on the Springfield campus of Missouri State University. It was immediately popular with library users who wanted to enjoy the the late summer/early fall weather while working in the shade with good wi-fi.  Funding for the furniture was provided through a Summer Innovation Grant, with Jessica Bennett as the principal investigator. Bennett and Travis Selected for Provost Academic Leadership Program

Two employees of the Missouri State University Libraries have been selected for special leadership training. Jessica Bennett, Assistant Professor, and Brooks Travis, Information Technology Coordinator, have been selected to participate in the newest cohort of the Provost Academic Leadership Program (PAL). Over the course of the two-year program, they will engage in specialized training and development and will collaborate with PAL alumni on an interactive project.

On Thursday, August 22, 2019, Dean Tom Peters interviewed Brenda Lee at her home in Nashville, Tennessee. The interview was recorded and will become part of the growing oral history collection of the MSU Libraries.  Brenda Lee was “discovered” by Red Foley when he performed on February 23, 1956 at the Bell Auditorium in Augusta, Georgia, where Brenda and her family were living. MSU Libraries Awarded Assessment Grant

Lindsey Taggart, on behalf of MSU Libraries, was awarded a $500 assessment grant from the MSU Office of Assessment. Funding from the grant will be used to incentivize student leadership in two focus groups, building on an ongoing Libraries assessment project. The grant also will support student participation in a panel presentation at the Library Research Seminar VII, an academic library conference held at the University of South Carolina.
