The Duane G. Meyer Library has an exciting array of technology available for students, staff, and faculty to check out. The library has almost 20 computers, including Windows laptops, Macbooks, and Chromebooks. We also have an iPad, Samsung tablet, and Microsoft Surface. These devices check out for three days. Lindsey Taggart, Director of Resource Management & Discovery for the MSU Libraries, has been appointed to the City of Springfield’s Citizens Advisory Committee for Community Development. The Committee provides a forum for public participation on the City’s annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. Past grants have funded projects including non-profit housing developments, after-school care programs, and job training courses. Congratulations, Lindsey!

In 2019 the donation box located on the First Level of Duane G. Meyer Library collected $720.89 in cash gifts from MSU students, faculty, staff, and other users of the library in support of the good work of Ozarks Food Harvest. The money is being used to provide 2,884 meals to needy individuals and families. Overall, in 2019 Ozarks Food Harvest provided 18.5 million meals that supported 261,000 individuals. Because of a generous gift from Bill and Virginia Darr, the Missouri State University Libraries is able to acquire and use a new, high-tech BookEye 4 book scanning station and supporting software. This scanner can create high quality, color scans of bound materials quickly and easily.  Its design allows fragile items to be digitized without damaging the original binding, as our flatbed scanners would.  This new scanner enables the MSU libraries to digitize our wealth of Ozarks regional booklets and…

Two employees of the Missouri State University Libraries were honored during the recent Staff Service Awards and Appreciation Luncheon, held on Wednesday, January 8th at the Hammons Student Center on the Springfield campus of MSU. The event recognized full-time staff who reached a five-year service milestone during 2019.  Vicki Evans, Accounting Specialist 30 Years of Service Tracy Patton, Library Associate III 35 Years of Service Congratulations, Vicki and Tracy! Tyler Drenon, who among many activities is serving as a “non-student, part-time” Technology Strategist for the MSU Libraries, is a finalist for a Biz 417 Excellence in Technology Award.    Drenon is one of three finalists in the “Rising Star” category. The academic publisher Palgrave-Macmillan recently released a book of contributed chapters about Anthropological Data in the Digital Age, and our own Rachel Besara, Associate Dean of University Libraries, served as one of the four co-editors. The twelve chapters explore how anthropologists are grappling with new methods to collect, analyze, manage, and present digital data. Over 100 MSU faculty and staff attended the What’s Brewing @ Your Library event held on the First Level of Duane G. Meyer Library last Friday evening, as the fall semester concluded.
