A set of books gathered, cataloged, and prepared by the MSU Libraries is in the process of being moved to the new Fairbanks Community Center, one facet of the 5-year Northwest Project begun in 2016, through which Missouri State University has partnered with the Drew Lewis Foundation and Drury University to strengthen and support the surrounding neighborhood. In 2019 the donation box located on the First Level of Duane G. Meyer Library collected $720.89 in cash gifts from MSU students, faculty, staff, and other users of the library in support of the good work of Ozarks Food Harvest. The money is being used to provide 2,884 meals to needy individuals and families. Overall, in 2019 Ozarks Food Harvest provided 18.5 million meals that supported 261,000 individuals. Lindsey Taggart, Director of Resource Management & Discovery for the MSU Libraries, has been appointed to the City of Springfield’s Citizens Advisory Committee for Community Development. The Committee provides a forum for public participation on the City’s annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. Past grants have funded projects including non-profit housing developments, after-school care programs, and job training courses. Congratulations, Lindsey!

The Duane G. Meyer Library has an exciting array of technology available for students, staff, and faculty to check out. The library has almost 20 computers, including Windows laptops, Macbooks, and Chromebooks. We also have an iPad, Samsung tablet, and Microsoft Surface. These devices check out for three days. The Missouri State University Libraries recently received a large collection of books about various topics related to theoretical mathematics: number theory, chaos theory, etc. The gift was made by Lanarae Gillespie, the widow of Frank Gillespie. Frank Gillespie was a mathematics professor at SMS/MSU for 35 years, retiring in 2003. He passed in October 2018.
