MSU Joins Library Publishing Coalition

We Gave Them Thunder book coverThe Missouri State University Libraries has joined the Library Publishing Coalition, “an independent, community-led membership association of academic and research libraries and library consortia engaged in scholarly publishing.” 

The LPC has nearly 100 member organizations, including the Library of Congress, the California Digital Library, the University of Iowa, and the University of Oklahoma. The vision of the LPC is to develop and sustain a “scholarly publishing landscape that is open, inclusive, and sustainable.” Their mission is to extend “the impact and sustainability of library publishing and open scholarship by providing a professional forum for developing best practices and shared expertise.”

The Ozarks Studies Institute, an ongoing initiative of the MSU Libraries currently publishes:

  • OzarksWatch Magazine (2 times per year)
  • The eJournal of Public Affairs (3 times per year)
  • The OSI Book Series: Three books have been published to date, with a new book coming out next month:  We Gave Them Thunder: Marmaduke’s Raid and the Civil War in Missouri and Arkansas, by William Garrett Piston and John C. Rutherford. Several more books are in various stages of research, writing, design, printing, and binding.
