The newly renovated Room 206 teaching space on the Second Level of Duane G. Meyer Library on the main Springfield Campus of Missouri State University is now ready for use. Room 206 has become one of the state-of-the-art high-tech classrooms on campus, replete with a wide variety of teaching and learning technologies and connectivity. On Thursday, July 21, 2022 archivists from the MSU Libraries were at Timmons Hall for the History Keepers’ luncheon. This event and others bring together members of the African American community to remember, discover, and share local history. Last week’s program focused on the Literary Calm Chat Club. Ozarks Public Television’s latest documentary, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils – Backstage, pays tribute to the famous rock band that formed in the early 1970s in Springfield, Missouri. The documentary is available to stream on the Ozarks Public Television website.

Special Collections and Archives, part of the Missouri State University Libraries, is excited to announce the addition of a new finding guide available online. The Margaret Libertus Collection documents the life work of Margaret “Peg” Libertus, a Southwest Missouri State University (SMS, now Missouri State University) graduate.

Ken Meyer, a successful local businessman, philanthropist, and long-time supporter of Missouri State University, including the MSU Libraries, passed away earlier this week. He was 94 years old.  He was born in October of 1927 near tiny Hoberg in Lawrence County, Missouri. As an adult, Mr. Meyer transitioned the family farm to grapes as the principal crop, which resulted in Meyer Farms Wine.  Meyer graduated from Missouri State University in 1950 with a degree in business education. This week and next another series of active shooter response training sessions are being offered on a voluntary basis to MSU faculty and staff who regularly work in Duane G. Meyer Library on the main Springfield campus of Missouri State University.  Similar training was held several years ago.  Staff members from University Safety are designing and delivering these refresher sessions.
