Since its inception in February 2022, the Springfield Daily Citizen has been on a mission to strengthen and elevate local journalism. As a digital-only platform, the Daily Citizen prides itself on delivering “old-fashioned journalism in a new-fashioned way”—combining timeless reporting values with modern accessibility.

The Daily Citizen and Missouri State University are pleased to announce a new partnership with Mo State’s Duane G. Meyer Library. This collaboration will provide students, faculty, and library visitors with direct access to the Daily Citizen’s content on library computers and in the Open-Access Computer Lab housed in Meyer.

While readers generally need a subscription to get unlimited access to Daily Citizen content, this initiative ensures that the university community can freely engage with high-quality local journalism in an academic setting. The goal of this program is to support student and faculty success by providing reliable, in-depth reporting for coursework, research, and general knowledge. By removing access barriers within the library, the partners hope to foster greater awareness of local issues and encourage informed civic engagement.

The agreement expands on an existing collaboration between Mo State and the Daily Citizen, which is an independent nonprofit and not part of the university. In October 2021, Mo State’s Board of Governors—in keeping with the university’s public affairs mission—unanimously approved a facility use agreement, providing the Daily Citizen with office space and a host of related services. The Daily Citizen is housed in Mo State’s Freudenberger House.

The Springfield Daily Citizen remains committed to serving as a trusted voice for the community and is proud to collaborate with Missouri State University to expand access to meaningful journalism.
