On Thursday, July 21, 2022 archivists from the MSU Libraries were at Timmons Hall for the History Keepers’ luncheon. This event and others bring together members of the African American community to remember, discover, and share local history. Last week’s program focused on the Literary Calm Chat Club. Ozarks Public Television’s latest documentary, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils – Backstage, pays tribute to the famous rock band that formed in the early 1970s in Springfield, Missouri. The documentary is available to stream on the Ozarks Public Television website.

MSU Libraries faculty members, Jessica Bennett and Tracy Stout, will present at the 2022 Missouri Library Association Conference in September.

Special Collections and Archives, part of the Missouri State University Libraries, is excited to announce the addition of a new finding guide available online. The Margaret Libertus Collection documents the life work of Margaret “Peg” Libertus, a Southwest Missouri State University (SMS, now Missouri State University) graduate.

Earlier this week, during an online planning meeting involving representatives from the Smithsonian Institution, the Missouri State University Libraries, and other stakeholders in the multi-state Ozarks region, the dates for the Ozarks Program at the 2023 Smithsonian Folklife Festival were finalized: Wednesday, June 28, 2023: Kickoff Concert in the evening on the National Mall in DC. Ken Meyer, a successful local businessman, philanthropist, and long-time supporter of Missouri State University, including the MSU Libraries, passed away earlier this week. He was 94 years old.  He was born in October of 1927 near tiny Hoberg in Lawrence County, Missouri. As an adult, Mr. Meyer transitioned the family farm to grapes as the principal crop, which resulted in Meyer Farms Wine.  Meyer graduated from Missouri State University in 1950 with a degree in business education. This week and next another series of active shooter response training sessions are being offered on a voluntary basis to MSU faculty and staff who regularly work in Duane G. Meyer Library on the main Springfield campus of Missouri State University.  Similar training was held several years ago.  Staff members from University Safety are designing and delivering these refresher sessions. As the Institutional Repository (IR) for MSU, BearWorks collects and preserves access to the scholarly work of the University’s faculty, students and staff.
