flyer for the Making Local Memories exhibitThe Ozarks Studies Institute, an ongoing program of the Missouri State University Libraries, will be a proud sponsor of a forthcoming exhibit about early children’s television programs in the Ozarks. The exhibit is being created by the History Museum on the Square, which will display the exhibit from July 21 through August 17.  Access to the exhibit is included with the price of general admission.

When Silver Dollar City officially opened on Sunday, May 1, 1960, several personalities of local children’s television programs were on hand, including Aunt Norma (Champion) from KYTV’s The Children’s Hour, as well another couple of local television personalities from KTTS, Captain Briney (Wayne L. Grisham), and his pet monkey, Mr. Salty. Aunt Norma eventually went on to become a local and state politician. Captain Briney and Mr. Salty did not.
