This summer Tammy Stewart, our Reference and Government Documents Librarian, has been using a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet computer to make the ongoing project of weeding Government Documents microfiche more efficient. She already is using it for mobile computing in other facets of her professional life, such as conferences, reference service, and meetings. Appleby Veterans Oral History Project (M 13) in Special Collections and Archives is a collection of interviews with U.S. veterans and a part of the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress.  This nationwide project preserves the memories of men and women who served in the U.S. military.  In addition, local interviewers have also spoken with some non-veterans about their experiences during wartime. Hololens   After some logistical delays, the Microsoft Hololens has been shipped and is expected to arrive at MSU this week.  The device will be housed, temporarily, in Room 205 on the Second Level of Duane G. The final shipments of furniture for the new RIS Commons in the northeast area of the First Level should arrive and begin being assembled on Friday, August 4th. Installation should be complete by Tuesday, August 7th. Re-carpeting of the southwest area of the Second Level (“the Wedge”) should begin within the next two weeks, but the exact start date is not yet known.
