Welcome from Dave Richards, Dean of Library Services

It is an honor and privilege to return to Missouri State University as dean of library services here at Duane G. Meyer Library! Some folks on campus may recall that I served as a department head for special collections and archives at Meyer Library from 1997 to 2015. I then left MSU for an opportunity to serve at another institution as their dean of library services from 2016 to June of this year. I am grateful for this rare and exciting opportunity to return to Meyer Library; a library that allowed my career to thrive for nearly twenty years. Springfield is home. Nearly my entire family resides here and returning is truly a homecoming for myself and for my partner, Kristine.
I’ve only been back on campus for three days, but it has been incredible to reconnect with former colleagues and friends. The number of individuals who are still working on campus or in the library is a testament to how many folks care about MSU and are dedicated to its mission. I shared with the library team recently that my emotional connection to the building, the experienced and talented personnel, the campus, and the Springfield community reinforces my desire to move the library forward with innovative programs, robust collections and services, and welcoming spaces. In future issues, we’ll share with you the teaching, learning, research, technology, and access initiatives underway at Meyer Library. Until then, I hope to see you soon at your library!
