The Duane G. Meyer Library will have 19 rooms on the second floor renovated by the Missouri State University Campus Construction Team. Renovations are expected to be completed by February 2025, and a fresh coat of paint is just the beginning.

“Our study rooms haven’t been updated since they were built,” said Holly Kouns, Coordinator of Public Services. “Students told us that there are certain study rooms you want because of the chairs.”

For student’s seating comfort and functionality, the library will offer ergonomic chairs starting in the spring semester. There will be soft seating options as well as footstools. And if a patron prefers to sit higher up, there will be elevated chairs that go with new standing desks. Of course, there will also be a selection of standard desks. 

Another important renovation is the accessible options for people who use wheelchairs. No longer will there be inflexible desks built into the wall. The new desks can be modified for individual use.

“If we get feedback that a table is too high or too low for someone’s wheelchair, we can adjust it,” Kouns said. “The study spaces we are going to create try to keep the needs of everyone in mind. We’ll have a study space for everyone.”
