The Public Film Screening

Poster for the film The PublicMissouri State University Libraries will co-host a screening of The Public, in collaboration with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema SpringfieldEden Village, and Springfield-Greene County Library District.  The Public is a new film with a star-studded cast, placing a spotlight on mental illness, homelessness, and “one of the last bastions of democracy in action – your public library.”

From the film’s website: “The Public is about downtown Cincinnati librarians Stuart Goodson (Emilio Estevez) and Myra (Jena Malone) who see their regular winter day shaken up when homeless patrons decide to take shelter in the library for the night. What starts as a peaceful sit-in quickly escalates into a face-off with the police and the media.”

There are two opportunities to view the film:

6:20 p.m. showtime

Wednesday, May 8 (includes a post-film panel discussion about topics from the film)
6:00 p.m. showtime
