Tracy Stout, a member of the MSU Library Science Faculty, gave an excellent presentation on Open Educational Resources (OER) on Wednesday morning, August 17, 2022 at the 37th MSU Showcase on Teaching and Learning. 

Tracy provided a general overview of the fast-growing and ever-changing OER universe. She discussed the benefits of and ability to customize course content, innovate teaching practices, expand selection of teaching materials, provide equitable access to learning resources, and reduce the cost of student materials in an era when many students graduate with substantial debt. She also discussed how the use of OER materials can reduce D/F/W rates (especially for Pell recipient, part-time, and historically underserved student populations); She also summarized the challenges of finding OER materials, the time commitment required, the need for ancillary materials, quality concerns,  and more.
