A New Finding Guide: the Margaret Libertus Collection
Special Collections and Archives, part of the Missouri State University Libraries, is excited to announce the addition of a new finding guide available online. The Margaret Libertus Collection documents the life work of Margaret “Peg” Libertus, a Southwest Missouri State University (SMS, now Missouri State University) graduate.
Libertus produced, wrote, and directed plays and musicals in Springfield and Florida. She also held leadership roles in organizations such as the Center for Independent Living, the State of Florida’s Prevention of Disabilities Advisory Council, and the North Central Florida Health Planning Council. The collection contains photographs and genealogical materials, art, correspondence, theatrical materials and playbills, publications, and political memorabilia.
As part of an internship, Hanna Henroid, a Missouri State University student double majoring in Museum Studies and Art History, organized the materials in this collection and created a finding aid.
Other internship projects involved working with university-related collections, the Ozark Scandinavian Society of Springfield Missouri Records, and the Ora Logan Collection. Hanna also assisted with collection management tasks and worked with the Digital Archivist to digitize numerous materials. Hanna is photographed with the completed Libertus Collection in the back stacks.
