New Information Desk in Meyer Library
Last week a new centralized information desk was installed in Duane G. Meyer Library on the main Springfield campus of Missouri State University. It is located on the First (Main) Level at the top of the interior ramp.
The MSU Libraries partnered with local interior design firm, Scott Rice, and campus’ Planning, Design, and Construction to design a new service desk. The design was informed by feedback from desk employees and is reflective of the style and finishes found in the Library’s Living Room space located adjacent to the desk.
Accessibility and functionality were the focal points of the design. The desk offers multi-height service levels providing the option for seated or standing face to face interactions. Additionally, it has built-in and mobile storage options providing quick and easy access to loanable materials. The self-check-out machine is located directly across from the service desk and stationed on an adjustable height desk to allow users ease of access.
There are a few pieces of furniture on back-order due to supply chain challenges, but we’re waiting in anticipation for the final pieces to arrive.
