Archive It
Soon the Missouri State University Libraries will be using Archive-It, described as the “leading web archiving service for collecting and accessing cultural heritage on the web. Built at the Internet Archive.”
MSU plans to use Archive-It to periodically capture several of the university’s websites (including the Standard student-run newspaper, Athletics, and the Foundation), the Libraries’ YouTube channel, to which 6,180 people currently subscribe, and our social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Flickr).
Shannon Mawhiney, Digital Archivist at the MSU Libraries, noted, “We are increasingly reliant on documents and information shared only online, things that would typically in the past have been tangible items added to the university archives. Keeping up with trying to find these files online and decide what to capture is difficult, to say the least; and capturing entire websites will give us a much more comprehensive look at the university at any given point in time.”
