Brenda Lee: Circa 1955 Demo Tape and 2019 Oral History Interview
Yesterday, December 11th — Brenda Lee’s birthday — the Missouri State University Libraries made available online two digital recordings that should be of interest to fans of “Little Miss Dynamite.”
- A demo audio tape of Ms. Lee, circa 1955, that was sent to Bryan Bisney of the Ozark Jubilee, after Red Foley, the host of the Ozark Jubilee, heard Brenda, who was eleven years old at the time, sing at the Bell Auditorium in Augusta, Georgia, on February 23, 1956, when Red was making an appearance there. The demo tape is a 9-minute segment from little Brenda’s weekly local radio program, hosted by Peanut Faircloth. The audio tape is part of the Bryan T. E. Bisney Ozark Jubilee Collection, which the MSU Libraries is digitizing, thanks to the generosity of Bryan’s son.
- An oral history interview that Tom Peters, Dean of Library Services at MSU, conducted with Ms. Lee in August 2019 at her home in Nashville.
