STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Scott Goodwin, Distributed User Support Specialist
Scott Goodwin has been a Distributed User Support Specialist at Duane G. Meyer Library since December 2024. His work is largely IT. He serves the MSU campus by troubleshooting computer issues, a passion he stumbled into as a young college student many years ago.

At the time, Scott was working in Las Vegas doing architectural drafting, which was in line with his original major. He had gone to college for architecture, but an issue on a computer changed his mind.
“I love the challenge of finding a solution to a problem,” Scott said. “I was drafting on a computer and we were continually having problems with that computer and it fascinated me to try to fix the problem.”
This led to him switching his major to computer information systems. He finished his degree at California State: Stanislaus.
For about 5 years after college, he lived in Las Vegas. Eventually, he moved up to managing people and covering the region’s IT needs. Afterwards he spent time in Atlanta doing the same thing. He also worked in Texas for some time before moving here to Springfield. Before working at MSU, he was doing networking and troubleshooting for the Department of Revenue, servicing drivers license offices.
Though he has management experience, he prefers actually working on computers.
“I enjoy what I do now very much, which is helping people and solving problems,” he said.

After hours, Scott is passionate about golf and his dogs. Sadly, he only has one living dog now. About three weeks ago, his other dog, Basil, passed away. Now he only has a 2 year old puppy named Bandit.
“He lives up to his name because he’s a sock thief,” Scott said.

About once a month, Scott goes golfing. Sometimes he goes with his father, an 84 year old Vietnam War veteran and B-52 pilot who lives here in Springfield. The duo alternates between the Springfield Country Club and the Island Greens. And again, what he likes about golf is what he likes in IT: it’s all about the challenge.
“If you’re off when you hit the ball a fraction of an inch, because it’s going so far, that equates to several yards of accuracy,” he said. “It requires being so precise on every shot and that’s very difficult to do.”
One last fact about Scott: his favorite food is sushi.
