Meyer Library enhances shelving signage

You may have noticed that the Duane G. Meyer Library is adding vinyl informational stickers to the ends of the shelves. These stickers help to make finding materials easier for library patrons. This project was done by Jacob McDaniel, a non-student part-time worker, under the supervision of Holly Kouns, coordinator of public services.

“Jake went through every single range that we have and compared the call numbers to library of congress subject headings,” said Kouns. “He listed every subject heading on the range and simplified it to make browsing the stacks easier.”

Jacob did this work in collaboration with many library employees and faculty members, including Derek Moser, director of research management and discovery, Sarah Curl, graphic designer, and Kayla Stehr, a student-worker in the marketing department. The stickers aid people who are accustomed to using public and k12 libraries find materials that may be more obscure.

The project took several months and is now being systematically applied across the library.
