“Buried History” to be shared in talk on Nov. 19

Rainbow over Girdner Cemetery, southern Douglas County MODeath, funeral and burial traditions — from services to superstitions to headstones and more — are an evolving part of Ozarks culture. These topics, shared by individuals who know them best, have been documented as part of an ongoing oral history series produced by Missouri State University Libraries and Ozarks Alive.

On Tuesday evening, Nov. 19, Kaitlyn McConnell of Ozarks Alive, who has been conducting these oral history interviews, will share some of what she’s learned through this research, as well as how trends have evolved with time.

The talk begins at 7 p.m., and is free and open to the public. It will be held at Kentwood Hall’s Crystal Ballroom (700 E. Saint Louis St., Springfield). There is ample free parking near the Kentwood. Light refreshments will be served.
