Special Collections and Archives, part of the Missouri State University Libraries, is excited to share a new display with the community! Water Sources in the Ozarks: Protecting, Improving, and Promoting Awareness features selected items from archival collections documenting the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks, the James River Basin Partnership, and historic photographs featuring streams and rivers in the Ozarks Region.

This exhibit focuses on two organizations working to protect the region’s watershed: the Watershed Committee of the Ozarks and the James River Basin Partnership. The mission of the Watershed Committee is to sustain and improve the water resources of Springfield and Greene County through education and effective management of the region’s watersheds. The James River Basin Partnership’s mission is to improve and protect the water quality of the springs, streams, rivers, and lakes in the James River watershed, which consists of almost a million acres of land across eight counties.

Learn more about problems with our drinking water in the 1930s, the origination of both organizations, their programs and projects (including collaborative projects and events), and their fundraisers through the years. Also enjoy photographs of local waterways from the Domino Danzero Photograph Collection and the Lynn Morrow Collection.
