Meyer Library security gate updates
Last month, Nathan Neuschwander, acting head of Library and Information Technology, installed a temporary gate on the first floor at the top of the ramp where patrons enter the library. It was erected in collaboration with Holly Kouns, coordinator of public services, to provide proper security when the library is closed.
“We want the lobby open and available for students 24/7 to study,” Neuschwander said. “It allows us to do it.”
The security gate in the Duane G. Meyer Library is on track to be replaced with a permanent structure, however. The old one was worn down due to normal wear and tear and now it cannot be closed.
The new security gate, which will be a glass door front, is still in the design stages. The project is a joint effort between the library and the university’s Planning, Design, and Construction office. There is no exact timeline, but the project is in progress. Due to recent staffing changes, the timeline is very nebulous.
Neuschwander will meet with Planning, Design, and Construction for further discussions on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
“We’re prioritizing student access and we have found a way to make the lobby available while we’re waiting for a more permanent solution,” said interim dean Rachel Besara.
