New Pilot Project Addresses Article Processing Charges
The Missouri State University Libraries, located on the main Springfield campus, is becoming the first library outside of Europe to join Harrassowitz’s APC Waiver Program.
As the demand for Article Processing Charges (APCs) increases among journals offering Open Access (OA) models, the MSU Libraries and Harrassowitz are looking for ways to assist researchers in waiving and/or paying of such fees.
As a longtime customer of Harrassowitz, the MSU Libraries is expanding use of the journal aggregator’s resources by setting up a program that will facilitate APC negotiations and payments.
What does this mean for MSU faculty researchers who published research in OA journals handled by Harrassowitz? MSU is now able to work with the 586 titles currently purchased through Harrassowitz to either reduce APCs and then pay the remaining amount, or pay the APC in full.
This one-year pilot program will be assessed next summer.
