Roof Repairs Underway
In recent years the number of leaks in the roof of Duane G. Meyer Library on the main Springfield campus of Missouri State University has increased in scope and intensity, necessitating remedial action. Work to repair or replace major sections of both the older (40 plus years) and newer (20 plus years) roof are being undertaken this spring.
A mid-January email message to employees from Nathan Neuschwander noted that the roof over the major leak near the Third Level conference room and over the leak in the southeast area stacks of the Second Level will be completely replaced. The roof over the stairs and skylights on the Third Level will also get much attention, along with the roof between the two sections of the buildings. Maintenance will be conducted on the entire roof.
Nathan’s email also provided a list of specifics:
- Workers will be here from 7a.m. to -3:30 p.m. M-F and some Saturdays, depending on the weather.
- The really disruptive work is planned for Spring Break in March
- Both entrances should be accessible during the project, with some redirection at times
- The loading dock area will be blocked at times for a crane, but not more than a few hours at a time
- The crew doing the work does not anticipate more than a truck or two parking on the north side
- Building Coordinators (Nathan Neuschwander and Holly Kouns) are supposed to be notified when access to the library is going to be restricted
- We need to inform PD&C if we have any events that we need to not have workers around for.
- Project will be completed by the end of April if weather permits work during Spring Break.
- If there are any delays, the project should be completed by the end of May.
The total project budget is $370,000. Maintenance & Repair funds from MSU Administrative Services will cover 86.5% of the project cost, with the remaining coming from one-time carryforward funds from the MSU Libraries budget.
