Dr. Jackson-Brown’s New Book
Dr. Grace Jackson-Brown is pleased to announce that her new book, Promoting African American Writers: Library Partnerships for Outreach, Programming, and Literacy, is now in print. The product of years of writing and publishing delays that coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, the book was released in October 2022 by Libraries Unlimited, an imprint of ABC—CLIO.
Promoting African American Writers: Library Partnerships for Outreach, Programming, and Literacy is a guidebook for all librarians interested in library outreach programming, as well as a type of memoir of Dr. Jackson-Brown’s 30+ year professional career involvement in conducting programming at Missouri State University and Indiana University. Additionally, the book includes case examples of programming from other librarians from across the country. Librarians will find a wealth of ideas for promoting African American writers and other diverse writers.
The book reflects her passion for library programming. It provides professional advice for programming librarians and includes stories of successes and challenges to providing library sponsored programs that promote African American writers, and a public forum or place for diverse literature. The book demonstrates her commitment to the belief that, as educator Rudine Sims Bishop stated, diverse books truly are “mirrors, windows, and sliding glass doors.”
