Public Library Events About the Vietnam War

DVD cover of Voices from VietnamIn early November, the Springfield-Greene County Library will host two events that look back on the Vietnam War.

On Wednesday, November 2nd at 6:30 p.m., three military veterans who experienced the Vietnam War as young men share their stories in two powerful programs in the Library Center auditorium. Offering alternatives to Hollywood’s “Rambo” and “Apocalypse Now,” the veterans strive to deliver a “more honest, balanced and nuanced history of that long and terrible conflict” on behalf of the victims and participants on both sides.

On Thursday, November 10, 6:30-8:30 p.m., watch the award-winning film “Voices from Vietnam,” not rated, featuring an original narrative by Vietnam War veteran Larry Rottmann and score by composer Ray Castrey that accompany dozens of first-hand photographs and film footage of Vietnam.

A Q&A with Larry, Ray, and film director Mark Biggs, an emeritus faculty member from MSU, will follow the screening. Books will be available for purchase and signing, and DVD copies of the film will be available for purchase.
