We Gave Them Thunder
The most recent book publication from the Ozarks Studies Institute, an initiative of the Missouri State University Libraries, is now being printed and will be available for sale soon, both online and in-person in the Library Administrative Offices in Duane G. Meyer Library.
The book, “We Gave Them Thunder,” is about Marmaduke’s raid and the Civil War in Missouri and Arkansas. William Garrett Piston, one of the authors, taught history for 29 years at MSU before retiring in 2017. John C. Rutherford, the other author, is a local history associate at the Springfield-Greene County Library.
Jeffrey L. Patrick, the Museum Curator at the Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield southwest of Springfield, and the author of the book Campaign for Wilson’s Creek, noted, “Combining extensive research with astute analysis, Piston and Rutherford’s excellent study rescues General John S. Marmaduke’s ‘First Missouri Raid’ from obscurity.”
