Pearl the Pig, an anonymous porcine donor, but rumored to be a direct descendant of Arnold Ziffel, star of the Green Acres television program, gave a large donation of non-perishable food items that made the “Other” category of pets the big winner of the first annual Pet Wars. This friendly competition encouraged employees of the MSU Libraries to donate food and personal care items to Ozarks Food Harvest. Ozarks Food Harvest serves a large number of charities who work together to solve hunger in southwest Missouri. Library employees responded in droves, with 360 items donated by the end of the week. The Dogs finished second, and the Cats third. Fans of dogs and cats vowed to place higher during the next food drive. Tammy Stewart, who loves all animals, did a great job of organizing, promoting, and managing this effort.
