The two finalists for the Associate Dean of Libraries position at MSU are Dr. Jan Figa and Rachel Besara. Dr. Figa’s MLS is from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His doctorate, also from UIUC, was done in the Dept. of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. He has served as library director at both Rockford (IL) University and Illinois College. His primary interview day will be Tuesday, May 16th. Ms. Besara’s MLS is from Florida State University in Tallahassee, with an undergraduate in science education. She’s currently serving as the Director of STEM Libraries & Research Initiatives at FSU. Her primary interview day will be Tuesday, May 23rd. After having dinner with members of the search committee on Monday night, their Tuesday interview schedules currently are:

  • 9:30 to 10:15:  Meet with Unit Heads (LIBR Conf Room)
  • 10:30 to 11:30:  Public address (LIBR 107)
  • 11:30 to noon:  Tour of Duane G. Meyer Library
  • Noon to 1:30:  Lunch with Unit Heads at Civil Kitchen 
  • 1:30 to 2:15:  Open meeting (LIBR 107)
  • 2:15 to 2:45:  Meet with Joshua Lambert re: tenure and promotion (LIBR Conf Room)
  • 2:45 to 3:30: Meet with Library Faculty (LIBR Conf Room)
  • 3:30 to 4:00: Meet with Chris Craig, Associate Provost (CARR)
  • 4:15 to 5:00: Exit Interview with Search Committee
  • 5:00 to 7:00: Free time at the Hotel Vandivort
  • 7:00 to 9:00: Dinner with Dean Peters

For each finalist’s campus visit, everyone is welcome to attend the public address and/or the open meeting. Printed feedback forms for each finalist will be available throughout the day of his/her visit.  The resumes of the two finalists will be sent to all current employees via the LibraryAll email distribution list.
