Friday, July 28, beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Duane G. Meyer Library: Rare Wine, Rare Books. This is the ninth year of this wonderful annual summer event. This year’s theme is “The Art of Wine; The Art of the Book.” A six-course dinner will be served to guests, including six flights of exquisite wines, with exhibitions and discussions of beautiful rare books, including some recent acquisitions. Our guest speaker will be Mitzi Kirkland-Ives (Associate Professor, Art and Design). David Dain Smith will describe each flight of wine, and the gourmet meal will be prepared by Chef Quintin Eason and his staff. This event is sold out, but you can still make a donation to support the Fraley Family Rare Books Endowment fund.
Friday, August 11, and Saturday, August 12: The MSU Libraries will have a booth at the Birthplace of Route 66 Festivalin Downtown Springfield. 40,000 attendees are expected. The Route 66 Expo, part of the Birthplace Festival, is an “annual gathering of authors, artists, associations & collectors affiliated with Route 66 … at the Old Glass Place, 501 E. St. Louis (east end of the car show).” Representatives from the MSU Libraries, including the Ozarks Studies Institute and OzarksWatch Magazine, will be on hand from noon to 4:00 on Friday and from 10:00 to 4:00 on Saturday. Stop by and learn more about all the current and upcoming projects of the MSU Libraries related to the Mother Road.
